I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Carol Hannah Whitfield before in Charleston at the famed Maddison Row on Hasell. In this tiny but cosmopolitan hole-in-the-wall boutique, she showcased her latest line for everyone to gawk at, including me. I felt delicate fabrics, I swooned over chiffon, I was dazzled with her accessory line, and I wanted to dash out of the store with a creation or two of hers. The wedding dresses she envisions and makes appear are just that beautiful and stunning.

I’m a self-professed fan of this lovely lady, and I’ve seen her collection and her artistry transform over the years and I’m in utter delight with her latest Spring/Summer 2013 collection. In the wedding industry, enthusiasts (like me) will dissect and rave over the latest wedding dress lines from the top names involved in the wedding dress business. There are usually an array of descriptions and opinions, and I’ve stared and drooled over Carol Hannah’s newest frocks to come up with the conclusion that she somehow consulted the Crawley girls of Downton Abbey over a spot of English tea. Promptly afterwards, she headed out to have an elegant girls’ night out with Jackie Kennedy. In turn, these upper-echelon fashionistas allowed her to mold her line into this explosion of vintage: a vintage of the 1950s and a vintage of the 1920s; two classic moments in fashion history that are, if nothing else, legendary.

If you are in Atlanta for the weekend or your roots are firmly planted in this amazing city, you will certainly want to head over to The Sentimentalist from May 24-26th. You will get to witness Carol Hannah’s wonderful designs, meet with the illustrious designer herself, and to top it off, you will receive 10% off her creations. You were probably thinking it wouldn’t get any better; it certainly did.

P.S. Go check Carol Hannah’s blog for added wonderment. You will fall in love.

XO,
Jehnel

If you think natural wood is limited to the aisles of Home Depot, think again! Incorporating natural wood into wedding details is a hot new trend in the wedding industry! On today’s blog, I’ll feature a few examples of beautiful ways to incorporate this earthy trend into your wedding.

From elegant and fancy to earthy and natural, there are infinite options for incorporating natural woods into the ceremony and reception. Nature supplies such beauty on its own, when used in to accentuate the setting as something as beautiful as a wedding, the charm is absolutely stunning.

Personally, I love any opportunity to bring the outdoors in! Natural wood is a beautiful way to compliment other elements of wedding décor without stealing all the attention from more important elements of design. It can be added in a variety of ways without looking gaudy or overwhelming.

For your ceremony, consider a stunning arch made out of willow branches strung together with knots. (Willow is a very pliable wood to work with.) If you’re having a Jewish ceremony, it definitely would not be complete without a chuppah to celebrate under. If you know a handy-man (bonus points if that’s your spouse-to-be), get them to create one and design it together.

Decorate your reception unabashedly with this rustic style. Choose a focal point of your reception and let your imagination take you from there. If you’re highlighting your scrumptious cake, use tree cuts as your cake stand. If it’s pictures you love and you want to proudly put priceless family mementos on display, consider suspending them on wood cuts on a lushly-decorated wall at your venue. Affix the photos (if it’s safe) onto the cuts and purchase some simple ribbon and allow your DIY project to shine.

Still not convinced about this whole natural wood trend? Still think it’s too hardware store-ish for you? I’ve provided several images in hopes to convince you just how gorgeously natural woods compliment an event as stunning as a wedding.

Much love,

Maggie
