–The Chancey Charm Team
What did you do prior to joining Chancey Charm / What drew you to planning?
I planned events and activities for WinShape Camps for Girls on their year-round staff. I also partner with my husband to photograph and run our business, Akins Photography. My husband brought me into the wedding industry and through some connections with wedding professionals, and interning with Amy Osaba, I really grew to love the creative and intentional approach involved in wedding planning.
What’s your favorite part of the planning process?
My favorite part of the event planning process is the brainstorming/dreaming stage. I love thinking of all the possibilities and organizing thoughts and images to capture those ideas. Mood boards are my jam! I could spend days building new ideas and visuals for clients.
What’s your favorite style?
I would describe my aesthetic style as simple, deliberate, whimsical, ethereal and modern.
What’s your advice for someone thinking about becoming a planner or joining the wedding industry?
Don’t be discouraged if you have to start at the bottom – whether you’re heaving around buckets filled with flowers, fluffing a wedding gown, or carrying around camera equipment – it’s all valuable experience that will help build your knowledge of what it truly takes to put on an excellent event. It also gives you a serious appreciation for those that do the hustling that makes dreams come true.
Why Chancey Charm?
I love the value that Chancey Charm places on excellence, and creating an incredible experience for their clients. I also really desired to be a part of a strong community of women who are active in their cities and have taken charge of their trade.
What’s your best piece of advice for a new bride?
Focus not just on building a beautiful wedding day, but first on building a beautiful start to your marriage. Invest in premarital counseling, seek out wise couples that are in a place that you would like to be one day, read tried and true marriage books, and intentionally pray for your marriage!
What’s your favorite reception song, you know the one you secretly dance too in the back when you think no one is watching?
P.Y.T. by Michael Jackson
Do you have any pets?
Yes! We have the sweetest pit-bull, beagle mix. We rescued her when she was a puppy and have fallen absolutely in love with her. She’s maybe, just a little bit spoiled.
Do you have a hobby?
I’m so happy when I find a good dance or spin class. I also enjoy painting!
What’s your favorite flower or gown designer?
My favorite flower changes on a regular basis, but currently I really love chocolate hellebores. I’m also a sucker for a good garden rose.
What’s your favorite movie or TV show?
What’s your favorite restaurant in your city?
So far, Oxford Exchange, or Buddy Brew Coffee in Hyde Park.
