Camerata at Paulie’s was one of the first places my Houston friends put on my must-go list when I moved into town. This cozy and dim wine bar is the perfect place to bring your favorite gals for your classy, laid-back bachelorette festivities. Don’t read that to mean unexciting, though! While you can hear each other talk, the atmosphere at Camerata is lively and perfect for a girls’ night out celebration.
And the proof is in the menu! Their witty “damned wine list” is full of quips and puns that make reading it almost as enjoyable as the actual wine, but only almost. To help you make it through that extensive list is a number of well-trained waiters who can expertly suggest a glass or bottle based on your wine style preferences. (Pro Tip: If your tastes lean towards rieslings, you like aromatic whites, sauvignon blancs are medium bodied and rich, and most oaked chardonnays fall into the full bodied, oaky whites style. As for you lovers of things that stain, cabernet sauvignons are considered powerful reds, nebiollo is fresh and spicy, and most pinot noirs fit the mild-mannered red characteristics.)
A personal favorite of mine – and one perfect for toasting the future Mrs. – is the Monte Rossa Prima Cuvee Brut. If you like “bready” champagnes, you will love this yeasty and sharp Italian sparkling. And of course, my favorite part is that cheese is its recommended partner in crime. And thankfully Camerata has prepared plenty to munch on! I highly recommend ordering up a plate with all eight featured cheeses and salumis to split with your girls while you sip and enjoy your wine.
Killer atmosphere and decor? Check. Wine list to accommodate every member of your squad? Check. Expert wait staff to lead you to that perfect group bottle? Check. Whether you are searching for that just-right hideaway to celebrate your low-key bride-to-be or if you just want a classy place to start off your wild bachelorette night, Camerata at Paulie’s checks all the boxes for a flawless ladies night.
