Brittany came to us looking for guidance in design that would meld her and Rolf’s families’ expectation of black tie formality with Brit’s more organic, relaxed style. With people coming literally from all over the world, choosing a venue where they could not only have their ceremony and reception, but also offer their guests lodging and activities was a must. The Clubs at Houston Oaks provided the perfect weekend escape for Britt and Rolf’s family and friends, melding high-end service and style with the natural Texas countryside.
We’re interviewing Brittany below, sharing some of her favorite memories and details! One of my favorite “secret” details was the lamb statue at the ceremony site, who Flora & Fauna dressed up with his own greenery collar. This little statute – a permanent resident of The Clubs at Houston Oaks – reminded Brittany and Rolf of where they first met, in the sheep lab at UPenn. From their great, big flower-puppies at the ceremony to the personalized napkin rings, Brittany and Rolf made careful choices for their wedding that not only looked beautiful, but truly reflected their story. This consideration went all the way down to their favors which told a story of their journey, Bem Casados – a traditional Brazilian favor that literally translates to “Well Married – for Rolf’s Brazilian home, Vermont syrup for Brittany’s, and Woodford Reserve Kentucky Bourbon for their first home together.

How did you meet?
We met while working at an orthopaedic research lab at Penn Vet New Bolton Center.
Did you incorporate any traditions into your ceremony?
Traditional catholic ceremony combined with Brazilian traditions, like all the girls in the family yet to marry wrote their name in the hem of my dress.
Was your favorite detail of the wedding?
My desert table was incredible and a “sweet table” with brigadeiros is a Brazilian tradition. It all really came down to the photo Kati got of our dog, Zephyr, watching the ceremony with his flower collar though. I don’t think there is a frame big enough to capture how much I love that photo and moment.
What did you enjoy most about your cocktail hour and reception?
The sparkler entrance was amazing as we got married just after day light saving so it was dark when we got to cocktail hour. The decor of the pavilion at The Clubs at Houston Oaks was incredible with all the fireplaces lit, trees with twinkle lights and with the chandelier and draping fabric sparkling it was amazing. Skylar had said that the lighting was important and the small lighting details we did made such an incredible difference.
Were there any unique signature touches you incorporated?
Given that the event had people from all over, we had a big map on the wall for people to note where they came in from. Its an incredible keep sake. From Brazil to NY to Switzerland, Spain, Ecuador, Mexico, Vienna and Canada it was truly to see how many people came to celebrate our love. We also had welcome boxes and favors that featured something from each of the places we have lived or had major life events in which was a real hit. Cookies from NY, Saltwater taffy from the shore in NJ, Syrup from Vermont, Bourbon from Kentucky.
What piece of advice would you offer other couples as they plan their special day and future marriage?
Get a planner! The day goes by so fast so enjoy the moment and don’t sweat the small stuff. At the end of the day, you can’t make everyone happy so don’t forget its about the bride and groom.
Anything you’d like to share about your planner / the planning experience?
Skylar was amazing and I could not have done it without her. She took so much stress away from the experience and without her I could have never found vendors as amazing as they were. She knew who had my style budget and found such amazing people who truly loved their job which made it such an incredible day (that stayed in budget too!)
