Navigating Pre-Wedding Nerves When You’re Getting Married Abroad

Destination weddings are dreamy and exciting—but they can also stir up some serious feelings. When you’re planning a celebration in a foreign country, far from home and surrounded by logistics, guests, and pressure to make it all perfect, it’s no surprise if a few nerves sneak in.

First things first: this is completely normal.

Here are a few ways to manage those emotional waves in the weeks leading up to (and during) your destination wedding:

1. Create Buffer Time for Yourself

It’s tempting to fill every moment with events, guest activities, and to-dos. But make sure to block out downtime, especially when you arrive. A quiet breakfast, a solo walk, or a slow morning with your partner can reset your mood and help you feel grounded.

2. Don’t Try to Be the Cruise Director

Let your planner run the show. Seriously. You don’t need to answer everyone’s questions about the shuttle schedule or brunch location. Redirect those queries to your website, planner, or designated go-to person. You deserve to enjoy the moment, not manage it.

3. Be Okay with Imperfection

Maybe the weather shifts, or a guest cancels last minute. Destination weddings are full of moving parts, and some things will be out of your control. Focus on the experience, the setting, and the people who are there.

4. Tap Into Your Support System

Share how you’re feeling with your planner, a close friend, or your partner. Sometimes just saying “I’m overwhelmed” is enough to release the pressure.

5. Anchor Yourself in the Why

When the nerves spike, come back to what this is really about: your love story. You’re creating a celebration that reflects your relationship in a place that excites you. That’s worth a deep breath and a whole lot of joy.

At Chancey Charm, we believe planning a destination wedding should feel exciting—not exhausting. Our planners are by your side from the first email to the last dance, helping you stay calm, clear, and fully present through it all. Let’s make it magical and manageable.
