Venue Name

The Lafayette Hotel, Swim Club & Bungalows

Wedding Venue Location

San Diego, California

When did you open?

The Lafayette Hotel was built in 1946.

Why did you decide to open your venue?

The Lafayette Hotel has been open for events since the 40s. Originally named IMIG Manor, the hotel was built by Larry Imig who used his Hollywood connections to boost the popularity of the property. Since its opening, The Lafayette Hotel has been a popular destination for people wanting to get away from their daily routine and have some fun.

How many people does your venue hold for an event?

Our largest venue is the Mississippi Ballroom, which can accommodate up to 300 seated guests with a built in dance floor and shell stage. The Mississippi Ballroom was featured in the film Top Gun during the scene “You’ve lost that lovin’ feeling”.

What makes your venue unique?

What makes The Lafayette Hotel such a unique venue is its rich history and one of a kind architecture and decor. The hotel was added to the national registry of historical places in 2012. We’ve celebrated 70 years of festivities and show no signs of slowing down. In 2016, we were named as one of National Geographic Traveler’s 20 Must See Destinations. We welcome couples to come check us out and experience a guided tour from a member of our sales team.

Best piece of planning advice to a new bride

The best piece of planning advice we can give to a new bride is to find a great day-of-coordinator. A great wedding coordinator will take away the stress of planning, ask all of the right questions, and guarantee that your wedding is everything you dreamed it to be.

What’s your ideal couple like?

The ideal couple is fun and unique looking for something different than the cookie cutter weddings everyone else is having. The Lafayette Hotel is in the heart of North Park, San Diego and we are a reflection of what makes this neighborhood great. From local craft beers to farm fresh and sustainable food specially prepared by our chef. A wedding at The Lafayette Hotel is like nothing you’ve experienced before.
