Why did you decide to open your venue?
I opened Merrimon-Wynne while I was in the process of planning my own wedding in Charleston, SC. I was inspired by the beautiful historic venues and the incredible southern hospitality that embodies Charleston and their wedding industry. I wanted to emulate the hospitality that I felt while planning my wedding for brides that were getting married in Raleigh. When I first saw Merrimon-Wynne, I knew that it was the perfect place to start. The building had an incredible combination of architectural beauty and history, and was enough of a blank canvas that I knew the possibilities for the property were endless.
How many people does your venue hold for an event?
200 for a seated reception, 250+ for a mingling style reception
What makes your venue unique?
We think the most unique thing about Merrimon-Wynne is that it is perfectly situated in downtown Raleigh, just on the outskirts of Historic Oakwood. Being downtown gives guests an unmatched experience. Your guests can stay just a few blocks away and experience all the amazing things Raleigh’s downtown has to offer, such as restaurants, bars, museums and art galleries! We also think being on the National Registry of Historic Places is really unique, especially being that we are not state owned!
Best piece of planning advice to a new bride
The best and more important advice we can give a new bride is to hire a rock star wedding planner! We have heard an overwhelming amount of times from our brides that hiring a planner was the best decision they made throughout the entire planning process. We have seen first hand on many occasions that the brides who hire wedding planners that really understand their personality and needs have the most stress free and enjoyable wedding day!
What’s your ideal couple like?
All of our couples are unique in their own ways and what we love about them all is that they prioritize their guests experience while planning their big day! We feel like ensuring your guests are having an unforgettable experience results in an amazing, contagious energy in the room. It is such an honor when we get to work with couples who exude love and happiness for each other and those surrounding them.
